On The Road Art

We presently live about an hour away from my husband’s work (a.k.a. civilization) and although we have really enjoyed the small town we currently live in we miss being closer to the city (both of us having grown up in Miami-I don’t think we can help ourselves very much.) So whenever we want to do anything other than going to the movies or Wal-Mart we’ve got to make the trek into the Metro D.C. area.

We recently did just that in order to have a fun summer afternoon at a local water park and because the drive was over an hour my boys can get bored and are notorious for getting car sick. I’ve learned to be prepared for both situations.

For the car sickness I usually have plastic bags, a change of clothes, some fabreeze, baby wipes, towels etc. in the car. I do notice that if they don’t have to make the drive first thing in the morning a Exorcist-like scene is usually avoided.

To bust the boredom I usually have books, some paper and crayons, hand held video games and the like on hand to make the time in the car a little more enjoyable for them.Their favorites are the art supplies which we call “car art” or “road art” depending on the day but in the summer if the crayons get left in the car they can get a little messy.

Luckily on our last trek out my boys didn’t make a mess at all. Nope no barfing and no scraping up melted crayons out of the sides of their car seats.

As for the no barfing incident I think it’s because we didn’t leave at the butt-crack of dawn and as for the no mess art I have Crayola Color Wonder products to thank for that.

I recently received a box of color wonder supplies to try and thought I’d bring them along instead of the  Crayola crayons this time. Crayola Color Wonder products are very fun and my boys love them (I have a “church-bag” full of the no-mess markers and paper that occupy my boys during Mass.) -but they especially loved the Crayola Color Wonder Lap Desk which was perfect for the long car ride. My six year old Michael enjoyed the Crayola Color Wonder Stow & Go Studio which made for an easy way to get creative from the back seat when his little brother Evan (aged 2) was busy using the lap desk and Crayola Color Wonder Story Stampers.

Before they knew it we were at the water park and my husband and I didn’t have to hear “Are we there yet?” once!

Guess what! You can get in on the no mess fun with Crayola Color Wonder too! I’m giving away one Crayola Color Wonder “Summer Travel Imagination” pack that includes a Color Wonder Lap Desk, Color Wonder Finger Paint & Paper, Color Wonder Markers and Paper, Color Wonder Stow & Go Studio and Color Wonder Story Stampers that you can take on your own long car rides or use at home to bust some boredom on your own!
