Birthday Traditions
Ever since my first son was born, I’ve always placed balloons and a gift (or three) in their bedrooms on the night before their birthday while they slept. When your a child your birthday is a magical day, much like Christmas and I love to make birthdays special for my boys. What could be more magical than waking up on their special day to a colorful jamboree of balloons and presents?
Today my baby turned three. Last night my friend called me asking if I’d like to go and have some soup with her. I’m never one to say no to soup, the boys were in bed and my Mom was here which made for a perfect soup getting opportunity. We headed to Versailles for some yummy soup at about ten o’clock. Amongst the girl chat that is inevitable I listed the things I still have to do for Evan’s birthday party this Sunday. On my list was heading to Wal-Mart for a few things like jello (to make Lego block shaped “jigglers”) and she suggested we go after our late night meal.
Late night trips to Wal-Mart are nothing new for me (or her). Wal-Mart in Miami is just as busy at Midnight as it is at mid-day. An hour and a half later we walked out of Wal-mart with the jello and a few other things in our basket.
She dropped me off and we said our good-byes and I then quietly crept into the house, plugged my iPod into my ears and began wrapping up the gifts my husband sent out boys from Korea a few weeks ago.

Blowing up balloons at 2am has become a tradition!

I was “window shopping” for a dress to wear at my son’s Lego themed birthday party next month and I came across these that are totally swoon worthy.

This gorgeous number is from Ruche. I wish someone could have taken my photograph when I first saw this dress. If I were a cartoon, I’d have hearts for eyes!
I am in love with this dress from ModCloth. I think it would be perfect for the party. I suppose it’s a good thing that it’s currently out of stock since it’s way out of my budget.
This lovely little number is also so cute (Can’t you picture me bouncing around inside the bounce house in it?) It’s also much more in tune to my budget.
Modcloth’s items can go pretty fast, but don’t let that get you down…ModCloth Super Sale is going on right now!

This weekend a very good friend of mine allowed me the pleasure joining in on celebrating her son’s first birthday!
About a month ago she asked for my help in planning the big day and it was so much fun. I made the centerpieces and designed the tags for the treat bags and candy dishes. Since it was Spring we opted to go for a fun spring time theme. It also helped that Easter was in full retail splendor we got a lot of this stuff on sale or clearance. Each centerpiece was under five dollars, for the treat bags we used brown paper lunch bags and the tags were designed using free photo shop brushes I found online I printed them at home on regular lined note book paper. This theme is great for a boy or girl so it would be perfect for twins and could be modified for a baby shower. Each centerpiece had a different animal, there was a puppy, a chick, bumblebee, and flower, in the center was a what’cha-ma-call-it? We scored at Target for $1.00 each. Spring out from the center were pipe-cleaners laden with foam stickers I found at Michaels, topping off each centerpiece was fun colorful “grass” and a bouquet spray of three similarly colored helium balloons.
