Ruffles

Ruffles

I’m sorta in love with ruffles these days. It’s a love that’s been growing. A slow burn really, ever since I found this shirt on clearance at Target last summer.

That’s not to say that I didn’t always fancy a happy ruffle, but when you’re overweight, ruffles aren’t something you can wear very easily. I am no longer overweight. Hope you got  that memo. Now, I am finally able to dress  like me.

I’m begining a new feature here. Fashion. More specifically fashion that I like. Hope you like it too.

Today, I like ruffles. I went in search of ruffly things that appealed to me.

Lost Things

I love pretty things.

I love old things.

I love going to flea markets and garage sales treasure hunting for pretty things that are old. I love wondering about where these pieces have been. Who loved them. Who lost them.

I love this short film too. Happened upon it serendipitously. (You know my history with that word.)

I also love A Fine Frenzy, I think Alison Sudol is one of those people I could be friends with. You know, what I mean. Right? When you see someone, or read about them and think, I would love to get to know them…because something in them speaks to you. She’s in this short film called Lost Things, she is also responsible for the music.

This short film, is very visual; I think if I could, I’d jump inside of it and live there for a while. It’s one of those things that put a smile on your face. It certainly did that for me, which is why I wanted to share it with you and pass on that smile.

It was created by Angela Kohler, I don’t know all that much about her-just found her blog, but I checked out her website, and she is very talented. If you’re into photography, do yourself a favor and check out her work. I especially loved her “notebooks”, I love notebooks.

Mommy The Thinker

Mommy The Thinker

This afternoon for the first time in weeks, I sat down at my kitchen counter, turned my play-list up and began writing. Things had been going fairly well, when Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train” came on. Now, I’ve heard this song many, many times before, but today it was different-this song sparked a ton of ideas in my mind. My son came and asked what I was doing with out looking up, I replied “Mommy is thinking.” He asked if he could borrow my iPhone to call his aunt, I said, “Sure.”  The camera must have caught his eye because he snapped this picture instead.  I dig it. Rodin, has got nothin’ on my boy!

More Snow On Its Way

More Snow On Its Way

As I write this snow is yet again falling rather heavily in big puffy tufts of white from heaven. We’re supposed to get another eight to 15 inches tonight on top of the 35 inches we had this weekend. There is a lot of snow out here and it’s not going anywhere for a really long time. With this fact, I realize that I’ve got to learn to love the snow-or at the very least like it.

The truth of the matter is that I don’t hate the snow-I actually enjoy it. What I don’t like is the hassle that it brings. Not being able to move about freely, the shoveling, the icy pavements (if you were someone as accident prone as I you’d worry about them too).

I have decided however to focus on the good things about the snow. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

It’s beautiful to look at, untouched in my back yard.

My son is having lots of snow days. I’m going to take this time and enjoy him being home all day again.

My husband has been home. A true oddity one that I absolutely love.

We’re going to have lots of fun playing in it.

I may just take the plunge and dive in. I can see it now…a brief sprint off my deck and a big jump as I yell “CANNON BALL!” – I may hurt myself in the process.

A lot of my pals on facebook have been making “snow cream”. I just may give it  a whirl. I must confess the idea doesn’t completely appeal to me. I wouldn’t drink rain water unless I were to find my self in some sort of Bear Grylls-esque survival situation, so why would I eat snow? I do think that Michael would go bananas over doing something like that-and in the spirit of-we-only-live-once and who cares if I get a little stomach upset I may just try it!

What I Wear During A Blizzard

What I Wear During A Blizzard

We’re in the middle of a blizzard in my little part of the world and I’m totally dressed for it.

I’m wearing a chocolate brown Fossil hat, green hand made fingerless mittens, a gray merino wool scarf -I’ve been wearing this scarf a lot this season. It’s my favorite and a “Pale is the New Tan” t-shirt.

Yes. I’m indoors, what’s your point? It’s the winter and this outfit-although I am experience my first blizzard EVER is pretty much how I dress when I’m indoors. No, we don’t keep our house at frigid, our thermostat is set to about 70 degrees-any higher and my family would suffer heat stroke! Because of my weight loss I’m cold a lot and in this is my best solution, other wise my family would have to dress like it’s 90 degrees outside because our heat would be on 85! :)

My husband snapped this picture as I played catch with my little guy.
