Blue October sings "Congratulations" at Rams Head Live in Baltimore
I saw Blue October yesterday!!! I adore this song!!! I’ve been searching for just one word to describe my experience. One word isn’t enough. I’ve thought of transcendent, incredible, amazing, wonderful, and 4D. To finally see this group that I adore, to watch them perform live with the music vibrating in my chest was better than I could ever describe.

We attempted to eat dinner at our hotel’s restaurant. Attempted… I wouldn’t call it dinner exactly… Our order took forever to arrive, it was half cooked, and parts of our order were missing. This is what is considered a four star hotel in Baltimore? Shesh! At least the vino was good!
I was having some tech issues with converting my iPhone vids they were sideways and I couldn’t figure out how to rotate them… so here’s three videos. Sorry about that…

Clerk Questions My Nationality!
Has this ever happened to you? You walk into a salon, party, or other populated place to hear people speaking a language other than English. You quickly realize that they’re saying something about you… and that they don’t realize you speak the same freakin‘ language!
Growing up in Miami, this happened to me A LOT! Thankfully I never really listened in on negative things, they were usually complimentary referring to my physical appearance… but it happens.
This morning on the Today show they did a piece on Hispanics in America. My favorite quote went something like… “You never know who’s a Hispanic.” So true!
People never believe me when they learn of my Hispanic heritage… I guess its because I don’t look like the stereotypical Hispanic person. However living in my small town (I call it small because we don’t have a Marshalls or a mall worthy of the word) I guess they don’t get many people with “accents”-never mind that half the people hear sound like someone out of Gone With the Wind, I was recently asked what country I was from. Seriously! I kid you not.
The conversation went something like this…
Store clerk: “Wow, that’s quite a different accent you have there.”
Me: Thinking, I have an accent. Really? Hmph. “Huh?”
Store clerk: “What country are you from?”
Me: Trying not to smile, “The United States of America.”
Store clerk: “Yes, I know this is the USA, but what country are you from?”
Me: “I was born in Florida, which last time I checked was a state recognized by the union otherwise known as The United States of America.”
Store clerk: Oh, O.K. dear, what country did you grown up in?
Me: Miami.
Here’s the piece I was refereeing to earlier…

On Saturday, we kind of just hung out, went to Borders, then in the later afternoon, I went back to Borders by myself to write, it was great. On my way there a flock of ducks… geese, not really sure which were crossing the street. It was so cute.

Yesterday we did a little shopping (I needed to get somethings in a smaller size- LOVE that! I also found the perfect sun hat at The Gap which I’m totally in love with and it fits so great and shades my face from the sun superbly!
Then we visited a local farm for some strawberry picking! First time picking strawberries in Virginia, I was reminded of the times I did it back home in Miami as a kid. My son Mo had a blast and baby Copper was getting in on the action too!

Schmucks Abound on The Metro
This weekend we ventured out on a very windy day to see the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Jerks are everywhere especially on the D.C. Metro lines.
Picture this:
I’m with my baby asleep in his stroller getting on the train. I was the first one to walk in to this particular car and almost immediately found myself stuck unable to move ahead although the train had plenty of room on it. My goal was to get to an area of the car where I’d be out of the way but my stroller wouldn’t fit through the narrow isle that was already being taken up mostly by another stroller.
The stroller belongs to another baby but it is empty because the baby is happily playing with his mother. The child’s father is sitting, his hand on the open stroller watching me struggle. Apparently his parents never taught him how to be a gentleman or perhaps he was choosing at that particular moment to ignore that lesson but to my utter amazement he continued to sit there with this stupid expression on his face.
Meanwhile people are yelling behind me to move forward. I’m looking at this “asshole” thinking, Dude get the “F” up and move out of my way!
“Chica move up!” My mother calls from somewhere behind me. I turn around clearly annoyed and reply, “I can’t because this man has no clue what it is to be a gentleman.”
Realizing that this man must have cow dung for brains I inquire, “Sir, would you mind moving your stroller, so that I can pass?”
Do you know what he said to me?
Of course you don’t so I’m going to tell you.
“What so that you can take my seat?”
I kid you not.
I reply. “Sir, I assure you I have no desire to sit in a seat that you were occupying. All I wish is to move to that area of the train where I will be out of the way off all our fellow commuters.”
He gets up then I hope feeling like the schmuck he is, and says to me, “If you wanted to get over there why didn’t you enter from that door?” Pointing to the door directly across from the area of the train I was attempting to get to.
I couldn’t resist so I reply. “Sir, I had no idea that you’d be here. I’m not psychic. I wish I were, because then I would have known I’d have something to write about other than Cherry Blossoms later.”
