Pretty Displays

Pretty Displays

I love to display things in simple and pretty ways. It’s also important to me that nothing be to permanent as I can change my mood or want to see something new fairly often.

Here is how I’m currently choosing to display my perfume on a vintage tray, sunglasses and a few other odds and ends. I’m using an old picture frame Halmark family tree thing-a-ma-bob for some random jewelry and milk glass bowls for my sunglasses and pretty stones.

Ummm What??

Ummm What??

I went out with my good friend Mimi tonight and although it was unplanned we ended up at a local burger joint.

This is what I looked like while my muse whispered in my ear and she rambled on about a million different things.

It was very hard to keep up with both conversations.

Trust me.

Friday's Favorite Things: Harry Potter

Friday's Favorite Things: Harry Potter

Last night (this morning really) I saw the last Harry film. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 did not disappoint, it was everything I expected and more. In short…It was amazing! I’m still working out a few of my “regular” series, and since today is Friday, I decided that favorite things, and favorite sort of pair well together…I’m sure it’s not an entirely original thought, but I’m running on 3 hours sleep.

Here are my favorite things today, Friday July 15, 2011.

Emma Watson’s UK premier dress. She wore this oh so lovely Oscar De La Renta gray (my favorite) and looked stunning and like a fairy tale princess!

As a fellow red head I was so happy to see Bonnie Wright in this pink (also my favorite) gown. Ruffles!

I loved the opening scene of Deathly Hallows Part 2. I wish I could just zip away to this perfect ocean side cottage.

harry, herminoe, ron, gryfindor uniform

The great costumes. I personally loved to see how the school uniforms evolved as the characters/cast grew older.

As the characters became teens, they “rebelled” a bit, and we’re a bit more messy, shirts un-tucked, ties, loose etc.

Harry’s owl Hedwig was awesome! (I love owls) I wish my mailman was an owl sometimes.

The newspapers, paintings, photographs were among my favorite things in the books and films. Seeing the object of the photo or painting able to get up and move around was fun and truly magical!

The names. J.K. Rowling crafted a brilliant story, made even more so by her creative use of naming her characters, places and things. For instance  Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore had a name that matched his larger than life persona.

He Who Must Not Be Named a.k.a. Lord Voldemort will go down in infamy as one of the notorious and best evil villains of all time. Mark my words!

Bellatrix Lestrange was horrible and psychotic, and most of the time I wanted to stab her in the eye because as much as I loathed her, she was pretty awesome in her wickedness!

Luna Lovegood! <3 this character!

The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. I especially loved the moving staircases, and ceiling.

The Marauders Map and being “up to no good!”

The Order of the Phoenix.

The end of an era. It’s not my favorite thing, but this amazing story was brought to life in an exceptional manner.

Love and being up to no good,

nicóle

Photos: scavenged on the web. Google mostly.

'The Sound of Music'-Home Videos

Posted by on Jul 13, 2011 in Film | 0 comments

The Sound of Music is one of my favorite films. It makes me happy to watch and sing along and when ever I discover it on television I can’t help but stop what ever it is that I’m doing and watch it. Julie Andrews has a special place in my heart and this is one of those films where it makes you believe in fairytales. The soundtrack is like no other and one that is so much fun!  I’ve got a few records (yes, actual records) of the sound track in my collection (I may post one in my etsy shop soon.) so when I learned that Rodgers & Hammerstein has released some behind the scenes home video footage from the film in celebration of their website’s (www.rnh.com) elaunch I had to share it with you.

Never-before-seen clips from personal home movie footage of the making of “The Sound Of Music” in 1964, provided by Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies (Louisa), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta) and Debbie Turner (Marta).

More movie footage, plus rare photographs, mementos and memories will be laden throughout THE SOUND OF MUSIC FAMILY SCRAPBOOK, coming from Carlton Books in October 2011.

Wish-Full Cereal

Lucky Charms now has shooting stars. This morning at breakfast my boys and I made wishes into our cereal bowls. We made a wish before we ate a shooting star (there are five different colored ones). It was magical.

Telling Self Dobut to ‘Shut up!’

Telling Self Dobut to ‘Shut up!’

When it comes to my writing, I’m plagued by self doubt. It’s stupid really, and I recognize that. It’s also, the one  thing about my life where I lack bucket fulls of self confidence. I’ve decided (probably for the millionth time) I’m going to let that go and just write.  After all, after my children, and my husband, my writing is the thing I’m most passionate about. It’s followed quickly by vintage things and photography, but what tops my list of my life goals and creative pursuits is my writing.

Life’s to short to be doubtful or to even ignore what you are truly passionate about. I thought I’d post this as a little reminder to myself and any of you who may be doubtful of pursuing your passions or anything else in life.

Tell the negative committee that meets in your head to sit down and shut up!

love and tossing out self doubt,

nicóle
